SUMMARY:First Day of Spring Chalk Art Show with participating schools. Docents: Linda Cejka\, Georgia Pohl\, M. Mahi\, A. Riske.
DESCRIPTION:  \nGeorgia Pohl\, art instructor\, is offering suggestion on the street drawing and design. \nFirst day of spring celebration at Hallet Oak Gallery on March 20\, 2017. Featuring chalk art with Sacred Heart Catholic School visiting and special performer\, Chis Rybak\, country polka singer.\n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nFirst Day of Spring Downtown Hallettsville Chalk Art Celebration\, \nArt Sale and Membership Drive \nOutdoor Guest Performance by Chris Rybak \nDowntown – Free \n  \nOn the first day of Spring\, Tuesday\, March 20\, 2018\, the Hallet Oak Gallery is hosting a 2018 Spring Chalk Art Celebration and Membership Drive inviting schools and families to chalk the parking space in front of Hallet Oak Gallery from 2 pm to 6 pm. Chris Rybak will provide an outdoor guest performance with polka/country live music from 5p-6p. Refreshments will be served inside the Gallery. Admission is free and open to the public. \n  \nWe are excited about this event and need the schools to contact the Gallery\, so we know how much chalk and refreshments to provide. Chris Rybak fans can sign-up for a “flash dance” performance on the street\, which will include the “Country Line Dance\, Chicken Dance” and the The Wave. \n  \nThe faded yellow driveway space in front of the Gallery\, located in the famed Kahn & Stanzel building\, will be transformed into a pastel colored pathway. Elementary\, middle\, and High School students\, as well as families and professional artists are invited to join together to create a temporary masterpiece. \n  \nAs a non-profit\, our motivation is to support the artist and serve the community. But of course we still have expenses to maintain the building and hold events so we have to charge nominal fees sometimes\, and we want to do more marketing to support the artists so they can keep doing their work. For this Spring Celebration we’d like to keep it as a free admission to enjoy the live music and see the artworks. Membership to the Gallery helps with some of the operation costs\, and it shows support to our volunteers\, as does buying the artworks shows support to the artist”\, explains Mieko Mahi\, Executive Director of Hallet Oak Gallery. \nSchools and large groups please RSVP: 361-217-7030. Hallet Oak Foundation is a 501 c 3\, the parent company of Hallet Oak Gallery and Friends of Hallettsville Downtown Revitalization. Hallet Oak Gallery is a fine art\, performance\, and learning center. See www.halletoakgallery.com and www.halletoakfoundation to learn more about the mission of the non-profit.

SUMMARY:Spotlight on the Arts featuring Alice Vickers\, Mixed Media Artist
DESCRIPTION:  \nSpotlight on the Arts: Alice Vickers\, Mixed Media Artist \nOpening Reception Saturday\, August 12\, 2017 2 PM to 4 PM \nFree and Open to the Public – Drinks and Refreshments \nExhibit will be up through August 12 – August 31\, 2017 \n  \n  \nHallet Oak Gallery is spotlighting Alice Vickers for her imaginative works of art. Alice’s mixed media paintings are either in watercolor\, acrylics\, colored pencils or pastels and are described as imaginative and very colorful. \nCollectors of Alice Vickers’s work have said that her paintings give them “a feeling of happiness.” Inspired by modernist artist John Marin and abstract expressionist artist Willem de Kooning\, Alice has always been enchanted by intense color and at times completely ignores local color to express an emotion or mood.  Most of Alice’s paintings are abstract as she explains\, “I have no desire to be a slave to reality. I use design and shape in ways that I can never predict precisely how a painting will turn out. I can only plan as carefully as possible and then let my unconscious impulses take over.” \nAlice grew up in Galveston and was always interested in sketching and painting from a very early age. She attended Sam Houston State Teachers College and studied Art and Business. Throughout her thirty-three year career with Exxon Company\, USA\, she exhibited in many juried shows and won many awards. \n  \nAlice and her husband Bob moved from Houston in 2001 to live in Vsetin.
