He attended Hallettsville High School and graduated from Steven Mayo School District in 1966. He received his BA in Art Education from Texas Southern University in 1970 and was enlisted in the US Army. Moses is now retired from the Houston Independent School District after 26 years as an art educator. Presently\, he is working on his personal retrospect of rural life during segregation. His mural\, From Slavery to Freedom\, was first exhibited at Hallet Oak Gallery in 2019. The mural represented extensive research\, beginning at the school library in Trinity\, Texas\, where he worked as a substitute teacher. He has since upgraded it with a ship representing slaves and statues of Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass\, all in glass enclosures. He references three books: Bound for the North Star: True Stories of Fugitive Slaves\, by Dennis Brindell Fradin\, Who was Harriet Tubman\, by Yona Zeldis McDonough\, and Old Hate\, New Hope (American Adventures)\, by Ira Peck\, Steven Jantzen\, and Daniel Rosen. Dancing is an integral part of celebration in Africa\, so he has added 9” x 12” paintings\, Sisters\, Dancing in the Clouds\, to the exhibit. \nSatori Davis\, an award-winning 2018 graduate of Hallettsville High School student\, continues to delight viewers with “effortlessly-appearing\, yet incredible detail” in her illustrations and keen eye for composition. Satori’s art teacher for four years explains\, “Satori is an outstanding and hardworking student; I look forward to her future.” Satori uses real objects\, people\, and animals for subjects to create one-of-a-kind artworks. A true naturalist\, she loves to draw things as they are in real life making her work very life-like. Winning Best-of-Show twice in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Art Contest gave her a scholarship opportunity to attend the Glassell School of Art.  Satori also won the Patriotic Art Award through the Lavaca Memorial VFW Auxiliary #6382 three times. She won the 2017 Hallet Oak Gallery’s Art Contest\, a 2017 South Central Texas Art League scholarship to attend a portrait workshop; and a 2018 Hallet Oak Foundation scholarship.  Her public artwork of an American Flag can be seen downtown Hallettsville at Glen’s Packing. \nBria Woods is the multimedia journalist at the San Antonio Report\, where she produces still images and short videos highlighting and explaining the news of the day. Bria graduated from Trinity University with a BA in Communication and a minor in Film Studies. After working as a photojournalist for a year she moved to London\, where she earned her MA in Multimedia Broadcast Journalism from the University of Westminster\, London. Edible San Antonio\, The Washington Post\, and BBC\, also have published her work. When not covering stories in the Alamo city\, Bria is a documentary and portrait photographer. She has exhibited her photographs in several galleries and museums. While she was born and raised in Washington\, D.C.\, she was adopted by Texas. \nGene Grant is a fourth generation South Central Texan whose great-grandfather helped construct the Lavaca County Courthouse. Still living in Lavaca County but inspired by Boris Vallejo\, a Peruvian painter whose work has graced the covers of science fiction paperbacks\, Gene is a self-taught artist. He uses minimal materials and always carries a notebook to create pencil sketches for his beautiful portraits. Gene enjoys and challenges himself in capturing facial features\, especially the eyes. He is available for commissioned works and is a master at pencil\, pastels\, charcoal and oil techniques. \n  \n  \nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n More\n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print
