DESCRIPTION:Every first Tuesday of the month\, please join the Friends of Hallettsville Downtown Revitalization (FHDR) for the seventh meeting on the square at the Hallet Oak Gallery\, K & S Building\, 115 N. Main Street. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. We will serve tea and pastries. Mieko Mahi\, Executive Director of the Friends of Hallettsville Downtown Revitalization – a nonprofit organization will host the group. The meeting will end promptly at six o’clock p.m. \nThe April meeting will discuss the ways to enhance and support the beautification project underway coordinated by the welcoming committee for Texas Society of Architects for the June 10th and 11th J. Reily Gordon Contest and Conference.  The Hallettsville planning committee members are Gayle Bludau\, Mieko Mahi\, Cindy Renken\, Lois S. Weiss\, Tammy Woytek\, and Alice Vickers.  The organization will explore ways to energize the community and revitalize downtown Hallettsville. \nAbout Texas Society of Architects: An affiliate of the American Institute of Architects\, TSA is one of the nation’s largest organizations for the architectural profession. Founded in 1939\, it includes 17 regional chapters and more than 6\,500 members. The mission of TSA is to be the voice for Texas architecture\, supporting the creation of safe\, beautiful\, sustainable environments. As an advocate for architecture\, TSA promotes good design and the benefits that good design brings to Texas communities. \nAbout Hallet Oak Foundation Incorporated\n \nMission \nOur mission is to provide a vibrant center in downtown Hallettsville for people to explore and enjoy cultural arts and entertainment. As a non-profit foundation\, we’re divided into two parts: the Hallet Oak Gallery and Friends of Hallettsville Downtown Revitalization. \nLocated in a historic\, Kahn & Stanzel building\, the Hallet Oak Gallery sells an array of artworks from more than 20 regional and international artists. The gallery regularly provides meet-and-greets with the artists and offers numerous educational workshops\, classes\, evening lectures\, musical events\, and movies pertaining to the arts. \nOur Friends of Hallettsville Downtown Revitalization organization is dedicated to preserve the history of the town through guided tours\, cultural activities\, and fund-raising community events \nVision \nTo offer the people of Hallettsville and surrounding Lavaca County a lively new home to experience\, explore\, and enjoy cultural arts. DESCRIPTION:Lunch and Learn: “Creating Photos that Leap Off the Page and How a Camera Works” Presented by Mieko Mahi\n \nHallet Oak Gallery \nApril 9\, 2016 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM \n  \nHallet Oak Gallery Founder and Industrial Artist\, Mieko Mahi will be the guest speaker for its “Lunch and Learn” on Saturday\, April 9\, 2016 presenting “Creating Photos that Leap off the Page and How a Camera Works”. \n  \nMost people don’t associate art with the oil and gas industry. But once you’ve seen the dramatic work of Mieko Mahi\, you might think otherwise. Mieko’s 25 years of experience includes six years at Marathon Oil Company\, a major\, fully-integrated international oil company. Her extensive energy industry work includes photographing offshore drilling rigs\, productions platforms\, pipeline construction and fabrication. She has photographed onshore drilling and production operations\, refineries\, pipeline construction\, and natural gas liquids plants. Her human interest work encompasses large groups\, studio portraits\, executive portraiture\, and candids of people at work. \n  \nRegistration for the “Lunch and Learn” is 11:00-11:30 AM on Saturday\, April 9th. The fee of $20 includes a boxed lunch. Persons may preregister by April 7 for $15 for individual tickets or $12 each for two or more tickets. Persons registering after 11:30 are welcome but must bring their own lunch\, and the fee is $20. DESCRIPTION:SPOTLIGHT ON THE ARTS: STEVE BECKMAN\nFREE RECEPTION: APRIL 9\, 2:00 – 4:00 PM \nBeloved watercolor artist Steve Beckman will be featured for the Hallet Oak Gallery’s April “Spotlight on the Artist.” Beckman\, who passed away suddenly in his home March 28\, was a long time exhibitor at the gallery. Although the gallery featured his work in its spotlight exhibit for this past January it is returning his work to the spotlight for April. Proceeds from any sales will go to Steve’s brother\, Jeff Beckman\, for help with funeral expenses. Steve was an active member of Hallettsville’s South Central Texas Art League and the Mossy Grove Methodist Church. \nAll Spotlight exhibits are free and open to the public. The reception will be Saturday\, April 9 from 2:00 till 4:00 PM at the gallery\, 115 N. Main St.\, Hallettsville. The gallery invites fellow artists and friends to come enjoy a glass of wine\, view Steve’s watercolors\, and share memories.
