SUMMARY:Music Night at the HOG with JD Wellfed & Guests: Jarrod Birmingham and Jeremy Halliburton
DESCRIPTION:MUSIC NIGHT AT THE HOG\nJD Wellfed & Guests: Jarrod Birmingham and Jeremy Halliburton\nJanuary 11\, 2016@ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm\nTickets $10.00 or $8 for seniors \nPopular South Central Texas singer and songwriter JD Wellfed of Sweet Home will lead the fifth in a series of musical evenings Monday night at the Hallet Oak Gallery. Featured guests will be Jarrod Birmingham and Jeremy Halliburton. Jarrod Birmingham has been compared to Hank Williams as a country traditionalist. Birmingham believes “…country music should reflect the common people. That’s pretty much my mission statement\, to stay grounded in the knowledge that I‘m a blue collar individual\, a country boy. There are a lot of people out there like me\, and I’d like to be their voice.” \nJoining in the camaraderie with Wellfed and Birmingham will be Jeremy Halliburton. With a background in radio\, Halliburton has been nominated for Record of the Year and DJ of the Year at the My Texas Music Awards. Influenced by bluegrass\, rock\, and country\, he has appeared with Reckless Kelly\, Charlie Robison\, Cody Canada\, Roger Creager\, Kevin Fowler\, Jarrod Birmingham\, Larry Joe Taylor\, Matt King\, Kevin Welch\, George Devore\, Honeybrowne\, Houston Marchman\, Mark Jungers\, and many others…He’s also a notorious name dropper. \nJD Wellfed began writing poems in junior high and songs in his early twenties. “Anything and everything” inspires his music\, which draws on folk\, bluegrass\, and a plethora of other influences. JD founded the Sweet Home Music Fest\, which gave artists a platform for original music while raising funds for several community causes. \nJoin in the relaxed atmosphere every second Monday of the month at the Gallery. The performers interact with the audience\, entertaining questions and sharing insight into their music. Doors open at 6:30 PM. Bring your own drinks. Ice and cups provided. Checks and cash accepted for $10 door fee. \nFor more information contact jd@thewellfeds.com. \nThe Hallet Oak Gallery is located in the Kahn & Stanzel Building (K&S)\, 115 N. Main St.\, Hallettsville\, TX 77964. \n-Lois Weiss\, Contributing writer for the arts. – \nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n More\n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print

SUMMARY:Spotlight on the Arts: Steve Beckman\, Traditional Watercolorist
DESCRIPTION:Spotlight on the Arts: Watercolor Artist Steve Beckman\nEvery Saturday in January 2-6 PM Opening Reception January 9\, 2016 2 to 4 PM\n\nThe Hallet Oak Gallery will feature watercolor artist Steve Beckman for its January Spotlight on the Arts. Born in Vandalia\, Illinois\, Steve was interested in drawing and painting from an early age and pursued that interest throughout his school years. With a degree in art from Illinois State University\, Steve has exhibited in many juried shows and won various awards. His work is held in private collections throughout the United States and Finland. \nSteve’s paintings are characterized by vibrant color and extreme values—strong lights against powerful darks—and bold compositions. His subjects vary from birds and cows and horses to boats and landscapes. Viewing his paintings almost evokes the thunder of horses’ hooves or the slapping of waves against a dock. Steve currently lives in the Hallettsville area. \nSteve will be at the gallery to share insights about his art from 2 to 4 PM on January 9th for an opening reception. Receptions will be held from 2 to 6 PM on the following Saturdays throughout January. \nThe Hallet Oak Gallery is located at 115 N. Main St. on the Square in Hallettsville in the historic Kahn and Stanzel Building designed by famed architect James Reily Gordon. The Gallery seeks to enhance art appreciation for the community as a whole—from grade school students to senior citizens—and to introduce visitors to Hallettsville to the talents and flavors of this region. Tours and visits are free. Donations are welcomed.\nLois Weiss – Contributing Writer for the Arts – \nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n More\n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print

SUMMARY:Christkindlmarkt at the Hallet Oak Gallery
DESCRIPTION:CHRISTKINDLMARKT AT THE HALLET OAK GALLERY \nIn the weeks before Christmas\, cities throughout Germany offer an open air market\, Christkindlmarkt. Originally markets to buy winter necessities\, they developed into Christmas Markets and a Christmas tradition. Shoppers at Christkindlmarkts sip warm drinks as they stroll among vendors of Christmas goods: tree ornaments\, wreaths\, candles\, baked goods\, candies\, and other comestibles. \nThe Hallet Oak Gallery\, located in the famed Kahn & Stanzel Building\, will host Hallettsville’s first Christkindlmarkt December 19th from 9 AM – 8 PM. Dr. Betty Edwards\, owner of the building\, is sponsoring the event. Tables are now available to market cookies\, noodles\, strudel or other items with local charm or international flair. Enhancing the Christmas spirit from 6-8 PM\, pianist Denise Drozd and vocalist Ruth Najvar Rouse\, will perform traditional Czech\, German\, and Polish music. Spotlight on the Arts featuring award-winning artists Roy and Blanche Cavarretta will continue during the event\, and the Majek Vineyard and Winery will provide free wine tastings from 2-8 PM. \nHouston physician Dr. Betty Edwards serves on the boards of various organizations and has restored a number of Texas buildings to preserve their history. She founded the Cultural Events Center in Hallettsville and continues to support the arts through the Hallet Oak Gallery. Das ist Lustig trio will perform traditional German Christmas music from 4 to 6 PM. Hallettsville’s favored pianist\, Denise Drozd is well known for her performances at local churches\, and special occasions for half a century. Drozd loves show tunes as well as classical music and spends many hours rehearsing. Ruth Najvar Rouse\, a devoted St. Mary’s Church Czech Choir vocalist and cantor for twenty years\, eine Bisschen Deutsch\, especially loves performing the traditional German songs O Tannenbaum and Stille Nacht. In appreciation of the rich traditions of her Czech and German roots\, Ruth notes: “Could there ever be a more perfect continuum between the past and present than the blending of Christmas and music? In whatever language\, in whatever time\, it is glorious!” \nMieko Mahi opened the Hallet Oak Gallery in 2015 with the help of Dr. Edwards and numerous area supporters. Featuring both local and internationally acclaimed artists\, the Gallery and its supporters seek to foster art appreciation in the community\, to work with young people through the school curriculum\, to offer leisure learning opportunities for senior citizens and students\, and to expose visitors to the local talents and flavors of this region. \nFamed architect James Reily Gordon (1863-1937) designed the Kahn & Stanzel Building\, which expresses Italianate\, Neo-Grec\, and Romanesque Revival architectural styles. Measuring 30 x 91 feet\, with cast iron thresholds stamped Kahn & Stanzel\, it is light and airy by day and exudes the glow of antique street lamps by night. With a view of the historic courthouse outside and the pleasing ambiance of colorful art inside\, the building offers a unique venue for business\, educational and entertainment needs.
