SUMMARY:Music Night at the HOG featuring JD Wellfed & Guests: Chuck Hawthorne & Libby Koch
DESCRIPTION:MUSIC NIGHT AT THE HOG\nJD Wellfed & Guests: Chuck Hawthorne and Libby Koch\nFebruary 8\, 2016 7:00 – 9:00 PM\nTickets $10 or $8 Seniors\n\nPhoto of Chuck Hawthorne by Faustinus Deraet \nPopular South Central Texas singer and songwriter JD Wellfed (John Reeves) of Sweet Home will host the sixth in a series of musical evenings Monday night at the Hallet Oak Gallery. Featured guests are Chuck Hawthorne\, a veteran with 21 years of military service\, and Libby Koch\, known for her true country voice. Hawthorne developed his music in Texas and on board the USS Iwo Jima. He sings about people he knew in his hometown\, on numerous deployments\, and many points in between. Libby Koch’s Americana sound blends the songwriting soul of classic country music with gospel roots\, a rock edge\, and the storytelling sensibility of a Texas folk troubadour. She delivers each song with powerful vocals in the style of her idols – Dolly\, Emmylou\, Patsy – but with her own signature voice. \nAdding his original and often humorous songs to those of his guests\, Wellfed draws on folk\, bluegrass\, and a plethora of other influences. He founded the Sweet Home Music Fest\, which gave artists a platform for original music while raising funds for several community causes. \nMusic Night at the HOG is held the 2nd Monday of every month. In the relaxed atmosphere\, the performers interact with the audience\, entertaining questions and sharing insight into their music. \nDoors open at 6:30 PM. Bring your own drinks. Ice and cups provided. Checks and cash accepted for $10 door fee. \nFor more information contact jd@thewellfeds.com. \nThe Hallet Oak Gallery is located at the Kahn & Stanzel Building (K&S)\, 115 N. SUMMARY:Spotlight on the Arts: Steve Beckman\, Traditional Watercolorist
DESCRIPTION:Spotlight on the Arts: Watercolor Artist Steve Beckman\nEvery Saturday in January 2-6 PM Opening Reception January 9\, 2016 2 to 4 PM\n\nThe Hallet Oak Gallery will feature watercolor artist Steve Beckman for its January Spotlight on the Arts. Born in Vandalia\, Illinois\, Steve was interested in drawing and painting from an early age and pursued that interest throughout his school years. With a degree in art from Illinois State University\, Steve has exhibited in many juried shows and won various awards. His work is held in private collections throughout the United States and Finland. \nSteve’s paintings are characterized by vibrant color and extreme values—strong lights against powerful darks—and bold compositions. His subjects vary from birds and cows and horses to boats and landscapes. Viewing his paintings almost evokes the thunder of horses’ hooves or the slapping of waves against a dock. Steve currently lives in the Hallettsville area. \nSteve will be at the gallery to share insights about his art from 2 to 4 PM on January 9th for an opening reception. Receptions will be held from 2 to 6 PM on the following Saturdays throughout January. \nThe Hallet Oak Gallery is located at 115 N. Main St. on the Square in Hallettsville in the historic Kahn and Stanzel Building designed by famed architect James Reily Gordon. The Gallery seeks to enhance art appreciation for the community as a whole—from grade school students to senior citizens—and to introduce visitors to Hallettsville to the talents and flavors of this region. Tours and visits are free.
