SUMMARY:Lunch & Learn speaker: Marika Bordes\, Sculptor
DESCRIPTION:Hallet Oak Gallery Lunch & Learn 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m with coffee reception following\n \nMarika the Path of Sculptor Book by Marika Bordes is an invitation to persevere in your quest for your full potential of a more creative life. \nTo order this book go to the Amazon link in the left column under the heading Marika Links.\nMARIKA BORDES\nThe Haitian child had a dream: To dance with the trees high in the clouds in their care-free world.\nMarika Bordes comes to us via Haiti\, then Canada\, then NYC\, then Sequin\,Texas. Her subtlety with the chisel makes the labor look as if one was cutting through butter. The resulting images are rich with the power of the wood\, the power of the spirit\, and the power of the love she places into her craft. Bordes’ considers her sculptures to be ambassadors— great seers witnessing and protecting the sacredness of life. They invite the inner sensations of joy and serenity. \nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n More\n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print

SUMMARY:First Day of Spring Downtown Hallettsville Chalk Art Celebration
DESCRIPTION:First Day of Spring Downtown Hallettsville Chalk Art Celebration\, \nArt Sale and Membership Drive \nOutdoor Guest Performance by Chris Rybak \nDowntown – Free \nOn the first day of Spring\, Monday\, March 20\, 2017\, the Hallet Oak Gallery is hosting a 2017 Spring Chalk Art Celebration and Membership Drive inviting schools and families to chalk the parking space in front of Hallet Oak Gallery from 2 pm to 6 pm. Chris Rybak will provide an outdoor guest performance with polka/country live music. Refreshments will be served inside the Gallery. Admission is free and open to the public. \n“We are excited about this event and need the schools to contact the Gallery\, so we know how much chalk and refreshments to provide. Chris Rybak fans can sign-up for a “flash dance” performance on the street\, which will include the “Country Line Dance\, Chicken Dance” and the “The Wave”\, says Aaron Riske\, Hallet Oak Foundation Assistant Treasurer. \nThe faded yellow driveway space in front of the Gallery\, located in the famed Kahn & Stanzel building\, will be transformed into a pastel colored pathway. Elementary\, middle\, and High School students\, as well as families and professional artists are invited to join together to create a temporary masterpiece. \n“Starting the month of March\, all art in the Gallery will be 10 percent off\, with an additional 15 percent off for members\, making the sale 25 percent off all artworks through the end of the month. Since we are non-profit\, our motivation is different; for example\, we are here to support the artist and serve the community. But of course we still have expenses to maintain the building and hold events so we have to charge nominal fees sometimes\, and we want to do more marketing to support the artists so they can keep doing their work. For this Spring Celebration we’d like to keep it as a free admission to enjoy the live music and see the artworks. Membership to the Gallery helps with some of the operation costs\, and it shows support to our volunteers\, as does buying the artworks shows support to the artist”\, explains Mieko Mahi\, Executive Director of Hallet Oak Gallery. \nSchools and large groups please RSVP: 361-217-7030. Hallet Oak Foundation is a 501 c 3\, the parent company of Hallet Oak Gallery and Friends of Hallettsville Downtown Revitalization. Hallet Oak Gallery is a fine art\, performance\, and learning center. See www.halletoakgallery.com and www.halletoakfoundation.com to learn more about the mission of the non-profit.

SUMMARY:2nd Monday Night at the HOG featuring Shelley King\, Singer Songwriter\, Blues/Rock/Folk
DESCRIPTION:MUSIC NIGHT AT THE HOG \nFeaturing Shelly King\, \nPerforming Blues\, Rock\, and Folk Music \nMonday\, March 13\, 2017 \n7 PM to 9 PM\n \nDoor fee sponsored by Texas Commission on the Arts through Shelly King. Please join us in thanking her for working with TCA for this event door fee to be free. \nHost Hallet Oak Gallery will welcome Shelly King\, Singer\, Songwriter\, Blues\, Rock and Folk music to the stage on Monday evening\, March 13\, 2017. Shelly is a successful solo artist and a leader of a formidable band of Austin’s finest musicians. Her blend of original blues\, rock\, folk\, country\, soul\, and gospel led her to be the first woman appointed to by the Texas Legislature to represent Texas. “Building a Fire”\, her most recent CD has affirmed King’s place as master of her own style of Americana blues. Music Night at the HOG is 7 PM -9 PM on the second Monday of each month. Doors open at 6:30 PM.  BYOB. Light appetizers provided. To learn more\, visit halletoakgallery.com \nMore about Shelly King:\nShelley King is a musical ambassador of the Austin\, Texas sound. For the past twenty years King has built a solid national career as a singer and songwriter who is both a successful solo artist and leader of a formidable band of Austin’s finest musicians. Her blend of original blues\, rock\, folk\, country\, soul and gospel led her to be the first woman appointed by the Texas Legislature to represent the state as it’s Official Texas State Artist – Musician; an honor similar to poet laureate. On stage she leads her band through tangents of electric Southern blues and acoustic folk\, revved-up Cajun country and rock and roll with a charismatic ease that evidences the resilience of a lifelong performer. She has won Austin Music Awards for Song of the Year and Best Roots Rock Band and released seven albums of original music to rave reviews and radio chart success. Shelley tours relentlessly\, performing over 180 dates a year at venues from coffee shops and house concerts to big theaters and major festivals across the world. Her songs have been recorded by numerous national and international artists and appeared in feature films. \n“Building a Fire”\, her most recent CD and the second recorded with members of New Orleans favorite sons\, the subdudes\, has affirmed King’s place as master of her own style of Americana blues. The Austin Chronicle says “Building a Fire assembles an audio dictionary of roots music. King’s powerful\, twanged alto takes care of the rest. The kickoff cut blends Louisiana zydeco with blues sensibility\, the singer’s no-holds-barred vocal mastery front and center… “Building a Fire” is filled with sinewy soul and King’s trademark brand of torrid gospel and blues\, it’s her most confident work yet. One where the songs\, band\, and singer sound comfortable together\, each filled with the kind of grace that’s scarce and delivers salvation.” \n\n\n\n\n\nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n More\n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print

SUMMARY:Spotlight on the Arts featuring Eric Dyer\, Contemporary Watercolor Artist
DESCRIPTION:Sspotlight on the Arts: \nfeaturing Contemporary Watercolor Artist\, Eric Dyer \nEXHIBIT AT HALLET OAK GALLERY through the end of January \n  \nFree and Open to the Public \nThe Hallet Oak Gallery downtown Hallettsville\, will feature Eric Dyer\, a graduate of University of North Texas\, Bachelor of Fine Arts\, Painting\, and California College of the Arts\, Master of Fine Arts\, Studio Practice in 2013\, for Spotlight on the Arts\, on Wednesday\, January 4\, 2017 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. \nWorking with watercolor\, Eric Dyer’s artistic paintings are characterized by his ability to slow down and capture a moment in time. His focus is to inspire us to take another look at the things we pass by. Dyer’s creative inspiration comes from Kurt Vonnegut\, Rory Ferreira\, Michael David Larsen\, Danielle Lam\, Gala Sadurni\, Bill Hicks\, Oliver Hawk Holden\, Andrew Masullo\, Dr. Seuss\, Don DeLillo\, Ray Bradbury\, and Doctor Who. \nDyer uses both color and lines to sketch what he sees. “My goal is to not create perfect imagery\, yet to capture a moment a bit longer. Images give me the ability to express more than my words. For example my signature is drawing buildings as if they were breathing. Buildings\, are not living creatures\, but are an accumulation of what happens inside them. In other words\, it’s the people that give them purpose and importance.” Some of Dyer’s favorite subjects are historical buildings and the perfect spot for drawing is downtown Hallettsville. \nThe Hallet Oak Gallery is located in the historic 1890 Kahn & Stanzel Bldg.\, 115 N. Main St. on the Lavaca County Courthouse Square Hallettsville. Hallet Oak Gallery\, a non-profit fine art\, performance\, and learning center. The Gallery seeks to enhance art appreciation for youths and senior citizens by showcasing emerging and established talents and flavors of this region including artist from around the world. The Gallery is open six days a week and is free to the public during its regular open hours. Some events have nominal fees. SUMMARY:Spotlight on the Arts featuring Chu Okoli
DESCRIPTION:Spotlight on the Arts: \nChu Okoli\, Classical and Contemporary Painter \n  \nThe Hallet Oak Gallery\, a 501 ( c ) 3 non-profit art\, performance and learning center\, will feature Spotlight on the Arts featuring Chu Okoli throughout the month of November. \n  \n  \nChu Okoli\, accomplished master classical and contemporary painter\, represented the United States in 2015 at the international art fair in Florence\, Italy. He has a studio in New York and Houston. In a relentless pursuit to give visual meaning to unusual ideas in fine art\, artist Chu constantly experiments with a vast array of materials. The result is a rare collection and a groundbreaking approach to a body of work created out of love; and with an eye to posterity. \n  \nChu teaches painting ongoing in Houston and is available to teach painting in Hallettsville for a special workshop. Chu is generously donating his time to Hallet Oak Gallery for a classroom visit and is interested in coordinating a paid drawing and painting two or three day workshop. Chu explains\, “I am available to Hallet Oak Gallery any month to give a demonstration. Please let me know when you wish for me to visit.” Aaron Riske\, Assistant Treasurer and Volunteer Gallery Docent\, said “Schools and non-profit organizations can call 361-217-7030 and leave a message that they have interest to meet Chu. Our events planner will coordinate a personal visit from Chu\, sponsored by the Gallery\, or arrange an in-depth workshop.” \n  \nOpen hours are 10 AM – 2 PM. Monday through Thursday and 9 AM – 5 PM\, Friday and Saturdays. Volunteer docents are needed\, as well\, as donations of vintage jewelry — to keep the doors open. Tea\, coffee\, and water are always available to walk-ins while viewing the artworks. If you are interested in being part of the Gallery\, please let us know. \n  \nThe Hallet Oak Gallery is located at 115 N. Main St. on the Square in Hallettsville in the historic Kahn and Stanzel Building designed by famed architect James Reily Gordon.  The Gallery seeks to enhance art appreciation for the community as a whole—from elementary school students to senior citizens—and to introduce visitors to Hallettsville to the talents and flavors of this region. Tours and visits are free.  Donations are welcomed. \n  \n  \nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n More\n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print
