Spotlight on the Arts featuring Chu Okoli

November 5, 2016 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Spotlight on the Arts:

Chu Okoli, Classical and Contemporary Painter

The Hallet Oak Gallery, a 501 ( c ) 3 non-profit art, performance and learning center, will feature Spotlight on the Arts featuring Chu Okoli throughout the month of November.

Chu Okoli, accomplished master classical and contemporary painter, represented the United States in 2015 at the international art fair in Florence, Italy. He has a studio in New York and Houston. In a relentless pursuit to give visual meaning to unusual ideas in fine art, artist Chu constantly experiments with a vast array of materials. The result is a rare collection and a groundbreaking approach to a body of work created out of love; and with an eye to posterity.

Chu teaches painting ongoing in Houston and is available to teach painting in Hallettsville for a special workshop. Chu is generously donating his time to Hallet Oak Gallery for a classroom visit and is interested in coordinating a paid drawing and painting two or three day workshop. Chu explains, “I am available to Hallet Oak Gallery any month to give a demonstration. Please let me know when you wish for me to visit.” Aaron Riske, Assistant Treasurer and Volunteer Gallery Docent, said “Schools and non-profit organizations can call 361-217-7030 and leave a message that they have interest to meet Chu. Our events planner will coordinate a personal visit from Chu, sponsored by the Gallery, or arrange an in-depth workshop.”

Open hours are 10 AM – 2 PM. Monday through Thursday and 9 AM – 5 PM, Friday and Saturdays. Volunteer docents are needed, as well, as donations of vintage jewelry — to keep the doors open. Tea, coffee, and water are always available to walk-ins while viewing the artworks. If you are interested in being part of the Gallery, please let us know.

The Hallet Oak Gallery is located at 115 N. Main St. on the Square in Hallettsville in the historic Kahn and Stanzel Building designed by famed architect James Reily Gordon.  The Gallery seeks to enhance art appreciation for the community as a whole—from elementary school students to senior citizens—and to introduce visitors to Hallettsville to the talents and flavors of this region. Tours and visits are free.  Donations are welcomed.
