Popular South Central Texas singer and songwriter JD Wellfed (John Reeves) of Sweet Home will host the sixth in a series of musical evenings Monday night at the Hallet Oak Gallery. Featured guests are Chuck Hawthorne, a veteran with 21 years of military service, and Libby Koch, known for her true country voice. Hawthorne developed his music in Texas and on board the USS Iwo Jima. He sings about people he knew in his hometown, on numerous deployments, and many points in between. Libby Koch’s Americana sound blends the songwriting soul of classic country music with gospel roots, a rock edge, and the storytelling sensibility of a Texas folk troubadour. She delivers each song with powerful vocals in the style of her idols – Dolly, Emmylou, Patsy – but with her own signature voice.

Adding his original and often humorous songs to those of his guests, Wellfed draws on folk, bluegrass, and a plethora of other influences. He founded the Sweet Home Music Fest, which gave artists a platform for original music while raising funds for several community causes.

Music Night at the HOG is held the 2nd Monday of every month. In the relaxed atmosphere, the performers interact with the audience, entertaining questions and sharing insight into their music.

Doors open at 6:30 PM. Bring your own drinks. Ice and cups provided. Checks and cash accepted for $10 door fee.
