Spotlight on the Arts: Larry Charles, Watercolor Artist

February 20, 2016 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

SPOTLIGHT ON THE ARTS
LARRY CHARLES, WATERCOLOR ARTIST
OPENING RECEPTION: FEBRUARY 6, 2016, 2 – 4 PM

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC: NO ADMISSION FEE

Local watercolor artist Larry Charles, will be under the “Spotlight on the Arts” at the Hallet Oak Gallery in February. The exhibit will open at 2 PM on February 6 and continue throughout the month. Charles, who draws inspiration from artists as disparate as Georgia O’Keefe, Norman Rockwell and Vincent Van Gogh, will be at the Gallery to visit with the public and share the stories behind his work.

Inspired also by the gifts of nature around him, Larry brings those gifts to his paintings in vivid color. He does not consider his renditions of pears or watermelon or bluebonnets as “still life,” but strives to make them “fully alive.” Developed over 25 years, his work reflects the time he spends studying and understanding his subjects.

Larry Charles is an award-winning artist with paintings in homes throughout the U.S., Canada, and Bulgaria. A native Coloradan who married a fifth generation Texan, he now lives in Lavaca County. Whether depicting watermelons, longhorn steer skulls or Indian Blankets, he brings fresh interpretation to the flora and fauna of rural Texas and the Texas Gulf Coast as well as that of the Colorado Rockies.

The Gallery will serve wine and cheese from 2-4 PM for the Spotlight opening. Gallery owner Mieko Mahi is excited to exhibit his work in Hallettsville, and invites the public to come view his paintings, visit with him, and enjoy the refreshments.
